This is the Eighth installment in a series of posts straight from our journal (handwritten). When we first received the difficult diagnosis for our daughter (still in the womb), we immediately started journaling. Click here to start reading Journal from the beginning. Here is what we said:
DAY SIX – September 30, 2001 – (Robin)
What a great day! We received great encouragement today from our friends and family @ church. God showed love to us through them.
We felt the comforting Holy Spirit as many people prayed for us! Bro. Phillips prophesied that everything would be alright for our Baby. We go tomorrow to visit the doctor. Thank you, Jesus, for a wonderful day.

2013 Commentary
This post was short, sweet, and simple. Living in community ushers in God’s love and light better than anything. Christ’s body on the earth displays His characteristics. The ‘church’ in general has many flaws based on the human element. Yet, God in his infinite grace and mercy (in spite of humanity) continues to reveal healing through people.
Have you experienced this?
“What a great day!” I love the start of this entry, especially in contrast to the way you felt the day before. It is a beautiful picture of the way God has designed us to respond to love. As you were surrounded by friends and family, in an environment that reminded you that you can trust God, your whole demeanor changed.
Nobody “fixed” anything. You simply had people who loved you showing you they were there for you.
I also love how God was gently speaking. He told you everything would be alright, even though He knew that your idea of what ‘alright’ looked like was very different from His. He knew that this was the beginning of a process that would reveal to you His Goodness, His perspective.
And then I flash forward to the present. I am amazed at the way my own journey has been deeply impacted through you because you allowed God to reveal Himself through this process. Understanding God’s goodness changes everything!
Can you imagine the joy and anticipation God had, knowing that you were beginning a journey that would connect you more intimately to Himself? And that the result of that would reach far beyond yourself and bring countless others into a more intimate relationship with Him!
I’m gettin fired up! So inspiring!
Yes, Elizabeth!
When we heard the words from our pastor, I am sure our original thoughts were complete healing.
Little did we know that “everything will be alright” would directly be relating to God’s grace and not our daughter’s ability to be normal.
GREAT SONG by my friend, Anthony Skinner about being “alright” http://youtu.be/SrV37r_hmrc
